OPEN ARCHIVES – Octave edition
For the octave edition of Open Archives, Fondazione Gian Paolo Barbieri opens its historical archive, to discover the artistic heritage that combines testimonies of our culture and our history, from 1960s to the present day.
This year the attention of the Open Archives round table is turned to the possibilities offered by information and communication technologies, from Artificial Intelligence that catalogs experience, to Blockchain that certifies uniqueness, to augmented reality that accompanies you into a new worlds. But what design and what governance for the future of archives? What possibilities do new technologies offer and what consequences do they entail? How will archives manage this process of change and use technology without being managed and used by technologies?
Gian Paolo Barbieri’s archive will structure the path within its spaces, trying to bring attention back to fundamental elements that have marked the history of Gian Paolo Barbieri’s photography, also underlining the narrative transformations that have been inside of the history of our culture.
In addition, a reflection will be put on how the concept of archives has changed over time, analyzing what could be the best scenario for the maximum enhancement, conservation and protection of the latter.
