78th FIAF National Congress

The Gian Paolo Barbieri ETS Foundation welcomes with deep gratitude the awarding of the FIAF 2026 Honorary Title of Master of Italian Photography (MFI) to Gian Paolo Barbieri, a prestigious recognition celebrating his extraordinary artistic and cultural contribution to the international scene.

The conferral of this honor by the Italian Federation of Photographic Associations marks a highly significant moment in the ongoing enhancement and recognition of Gian Paolo Barbieri’s work, crowning a collaboration initiated on the occasion of the exhibition “Gian Paolo Barbieri. A Journey Through the Gaze,” promoted by FIAF and hosted until June 2 at CIFA – Centro Italiano della Fotografia d’Autore in Bibbiena, curated by Giovanna Calvenzi and Claudio Pastrone.

As part of this collaboration, thanks to FIAF, a selection of 30 works by Gian Paolo Barbieri is also on display at Palazzo Carlotti, open to visitors until May 31 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

The exhibition and the conferral of the honorary title testify to the strong affinity between the Gian Paolo Barbieri ETS Foundation and FIAF in recognizing Gian Paolo Barbieri’s central role in the history of contemporary photography and in promoting his cultural legacy among the public, institutions, and new generations.

The Master of Italian Photography Honorary Title was officially presented on May 9, 2026, in Garda (VR), during the 78th FIAF National Congress, at the Gala Dinner dedicated to the leading figures of contemporary Italian photography.
